Multi-Purpose Home Office in Gold Coast
SCOPE: renovate the first floor with an enclosed room and updated bathroom
An old factory building repurposed to residences is hidden on a tree lined street in the Gold Coast neighborhood. Having lived there for many years, the homeowner desired a more comfortable office that could also be used as a guest room. The first floor of the townhouse consisted of a hallway open to one large space and a full bathroom near the entry door.
To create a multi-purpose room, sliding glass doors were selected for their flexibility. Four glass panels, each on its own track, provide plenty of options for fully opening or closing or somewhere in between. Frosted glass allows light in while providing privacy when needed. A built-in wall bed can easily be pulled down for guests and then tucked back away. Closets were added to both sides of the wall bed to provide office storage and a place for guest’s clothes. The bathroom was renovated with a walk-in shower featuring a bench, soap niche and hand-held shower head. Porcelain tile graces the walls and floor, while a stripe of “pillowed” blue tile creates a striking accent.
