What To Do with an Empty Space?

Happy Wednesday! Do you have a small area in your home that is empty or just being used to collect junk? There are lots of clever ways to utilize these niches and nooks, such as a bar, office, or library, to name a few. Check out how this week’s project transforms an underutilized nook in a Lincoln Park living room from waste to wow!

Reminder, if you missed Tile Tuesday, you can follow me on instagram to be inspired by beautiful tile installations.

Living Room in Lincoln Park
The design concept drawing shows the plan for floating cabinetry and shelves which will provide lots of storage and display space. Built-in cabinetry allows every inch of space to be used while keeping the look sleek and organized. The fireplace will get an update with a new mantle and mosaic tile surround.

Materials chosen
Dark gray painted wood was selected for the cabinets, shelves and mantle. The “Arrowhead” mosaic tile in shades of gray will surround the fireplace, adding an interesting shape and subtle texture.

BEFORE: the fireplace surround and mantle are disjointed and outdated

The TV was moved from the recessed nook, but the empty media stand and tangled wires remain.
