New Home in Old Town

Creating a New Home in Old Town
A family trades high rise living on Lake Shore Drive for a brick row house in Old Town.  Beautiful vintage architectural details have been retained in this updated spacious house.  While it is mostly move-in ready, there are a few items desired that will turn this house into their home.  A priority is to open up the kitchen to the dining room.  A complete renovation or removal of the adjoining wall isn’t feasible, so we’ve come up with a perfect solution which will make a huge impact.

The white kitchen features abundant cabinetry and a large island.  Ten foot high ceilings and a tall window keep the room from feeling cramped.

This design concept drawing shows the view from the kitchen. Now open to the dining room, the space is transformed and unified.  The lower row of upper cabinets will be moved to the wall by the island, so no storage space will be lost.

In the dining room, storage will be added with built-in cabinets.  The countertop extended from the kitchen will be used as a buffet, as well as a gathering spot when entertaining.
Other updates in the kitchen will include a new sink, faucet, backsplash tile and countertops. Construction will start next month after the closing and should be ready for move in by July.
