Bringing in the New Year with a New Kitchen!

THE KITCHEN BEFORE

Demo is Done!
This outdated kitchen in a Lincoln Park townhouse has just been demolished.  With yellowing wood floors, poor lighting and cabinets falling apart, the family is ready for the transformation.

Its relatively small size and angled wall didn’t allow much choice in terms of the general layout. We did find space on the other side of the peninsula where an awkward pantry closet existed.  It will be much more functional occupied by a tall cabinet housing wall ovens and storage.  With an oven out of the way, there will be less congestion in the main work area.  The curved peninsula counter will be replaced with an offset dining counter in a contrasting color.

The new kitchen will feature a wall of glossy white cabinets flanking a vent hood.  Rift cut oak cabinets in dark gray will warm up the room and create a nice contrast.  A milky white quartz countertop will keep the space feeling light and airy. A  backsplash is the perfect spot to introduce an accent color, texture or material. With so many options  to choose from, the task can be daunting!   In the running is a large format porcelain tile.  At 40″ wide it will create a wall of  neutral texture with few grout lines and excellent durability.  Check back next time to see the final selection.
